Went with Sarah and Kreg to KAZOKU SUSHI for lunch. It had really high ratings, so I wanted to try it.
The food
I started with the soup and salad. The ginger salad was excellent. It had the good kind of ginger dressing, with actual ginger instead of that creamy base. It tasted homemade. The lettuce was good too.
The miso soup was fine. About what I’d expect.
We shared the edamame. Those dang things, I could eat a thousand and never get full. They were really, really good. Big grains of salt too, which is usually a good sign to me.
Sarah got California rolls and the fried version. Between her and Kreg, there were a bunch of different rolls with fish and avocado. I don’t remember every one they ordered.
Anything with avocado wasn’t mine. I despise avocado.
The first time I ever had sushi, it had a big chunk of avocado in it. I think that was also the first time I’d ever had avocado. I didn’t even want to try another roll.
I gave it one more try. I think it was a shrimp roll with no avocado, and it was incredible. That helped me figure out what the problem was. Avocado in sushi just isn’t for me.
I got spicy tuna without avocado. It was really good, but creamier than the spicy tuna I usually get. Funny, considering what I liked about the ginger dressing.
I also got salmon nigiri, the pieces of fish on top of rice.
The vibe
The place is small, and it was busy when we went. It definitely seems to have a loyal crowd.
Service was incredible right up until it was time to pay. That took a really long time for some reason. With that many people in there, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were understaffed.
Sarah’s in Marketing and Kreg’s in Projects. We work on different parts of the team, but they’re great coworkers and great company.
We had some funny discussions I can’t get into here. Neither of them has much of a filter.
Sarah also learned about the food blog over lunch. I told her a lot of it is about keeping memories and having a place to journal, but I also hope it helps somebody out there with a disability. She was basically in tears.

The parking lot wasn’t in the greatest shape. The front door wasn’t especially easy to get in and out of, but it was about on par. I wouldn’t call it good or bad.
I rolled up to a table on the right side and moved a chair. That’s typically how it goes at most of these places.
I didn’t check out a restroom. I don’t know whether there was a public one, so I can’t say anything about its accessibility.
The verdict
Two and a half wheels.
So far, I think this is the best sushi I’ve had in the area. Nothing blew me out of the water, though, and it was a little on the pricier side. I didn’t leave thinking I had to get back there.
Kind of funny, but the ginger salad and edamame were probably my favorite things on the table.
